How are you doing today, listener friend?

I’d like to talk about transportation today, and I’m wondering – how do you get to work every day?

            今天要和你谈到交通工具，不知道你每天是怎样到工作单位的？

In the west, most of us drive to work.

            在西方，多半的人都开车上下班

We rely on our cars to get us everywhere.

            每逢出门人人都靠自己开车

Wen-jie, did you see my new car out in the parking lot?

            哦，马可今天开了新车来呢  Which one is that?

The Blue Honda Civic.

            是一辆蓝色的本田车  Cool!

Well, it’s a used car, but it’s like new.

            他说，虽然是二手货旧车，却像新的一样

And it runs great.

            开起来很顺畅

I love my car.

            他很爱他的车子 Mark, when did you learn to drive?

Like everyone else, when I was 16.

他16岁就学开车了

It’s the legal driving age in the United States.

在美国，16岁可以合法开车Wow!  I guess you are a good driver.

Of course. 

他说，他驾车技术不错，

That is, if the car runs good.

如果车子跑得好不出毛病的话…Ha!

 

The Radio Program: “Car Talk”  广播节目「谈车子」 Car Talk is a weekly radio show.   Car Talk 是个每周一回的广播节目 It has been on the air for over 20 years.   这节目在空中广播已经超过20年了 The hosts are two brothers.   主持人是一对兄弟 People call them with any problems related to cars   听友可以打电话，询问任何有关车子毛病的问题 Even problems like a husband and wife who can’t agree on how to drive.   甚至夫妻俩开车意见相左的问题也可以问 The show often makes me laugh.   这个节目常常引人开怀大笑

 

Talking about car, Producer Josh has a car story to tell us.

            谈到车子，我们的制作人Josh有个故事要告诉我们

It’s about his first driving experience.

            这是他第一回开车的经验

Was it good or bad?

 (Insert: Your Wheels are on Fire!)

 

“Dude, your wheels are on fire!”  What a story. 

有人对我说：；「小伙子，你车子轮胎着火了。」 这个经验实在太逊了。

 

When I was 16 years old I drove a 1990 Hyundai for maybe a couple of months.  It was an old rusty piece of junk, but hey, it was a car.  My car!  It was my brother’s car originally, and then I bought it off him for 400 dollars.  400 dollars for a car!  Pretty good deal in my opinion.

当我16岁时，我开一辆1990的韩国车Hyundai差不多有两个月之久 。这是一辆老旧生绣了的破铜烂铁。但无论如何，它还是一辆车子。我的车子！原本这车是属于我哥哥的，但我花了400美元从他手上买了下来。400元就能有一辆车，我认为这是一笔不错的交易。

 

I had quite the experience.  More like a nightmare!  Before I took the car on the road I shined it up real nice.  I mean I wanted this old beat up car looking brand new!  Or at least presentable……So I washed the car, cleaned the inside, and was ready to show the world my brand new piece of junk! 

我这个经验可真不得了。其实比较像个恶梦一样。还没开车上路之前，我把车子弄得非常光鲜好看。我的意思是我想把这部老车子，弄得像全新的一样好看。至少是可以出去见世面的….所以，我好好的洗车，把里面清洁干净，预备好了要向全世界展示我这新的破烂车子。

 

I turned the stereo up, and hit the road with my Hyundai.  The only problem was I had the emergency brake up the whole time! 

我把音响开大，带着我的Hyundai上路去了！唯一的问题是：我的紧急煞车板没拉起，整个路程上一直都还是贴地着。

 

All of a sudden I could not break, and I was sliding into oncoming traffic.  The street smelled like burnt rubber, and my car was smoking like crazy.  That’s when a random stranger came up to my car and said “Dude! Your wheels are on fire!” (SFX) 

突然，我发现我不能煞住车。我渐渐滑行到逆向而行的车阵里。街道上有橡胶烧焦的味道，我的车子也烟雾弥漫。那时一个偶然经过的陌生人走向我的车对我说：「小伙子，你车子轮胎着火了。」

 

My car survived, but it wasn’t too much longer when I decided to buy a new one.  I’ll never ever forget this day!  My first time behind the wheel had me thinking it was going to be my last. 

我的车子后来虽然保住了，但没多久之后我还是决定换一辆新的车。我永远不会忘记这一天的经验。我头次自己驾车上路，竟差一点成了我的最后一次。

 

Let me play the safety cop and remind you to Buckle up, and make sure your wheels aren’t on fire when you drive!

让我假想自己是个管交通安全的警察，来提醒你：开车时要系上安全带，同时确认你车子轮胎没有着火。

Wen-Jie, Americans, especially men. have an obsession with cars.

美国人，特别是美国男士 对车子很痴迷

Many people look for new features in the car.

            许多人想拥有车子的各样新的性能

Many people think the car you drive says a lot about you.

许多人认为，你开怎样的车，说明你是怎样的人

Some drive a Sports car, or an SUV which has a lot of horse power.

有人喜欢马力强大的跑车，或SUV休旅车

Some will choose the economical Hybrid cars.

有人选择经济又环保的油电混合车

While others select luxurious Lexus or Cadillac for status.

也有人会选像Lexus, Cadillac代表身份阶级的高级豪华车

But our lives really should not be defined by our car.

            但我们的生命不该是按我们开的车来定义的

The kind of car we drive, or whether we have a car or not, really doesn’t mean anything.

            我们开怎样的车，又是否是有车阶级，其实都不重要

Let’s listen to what the Bible says.

            圣经乃是这样告诉我们的﹕

 

Verse For Life 生命经文   Jesus said, “Watch out. Be on your guard against all kinds of greed.   耶稣说﹕你们要谨慎自守，免去一切的贪心 For a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”   因为人的生命不在乎家道丰富   Luke 12:15路加福音

 

Well, the Bible is clear.  Don’t be a greedy person.

            圣经很明白的说，不要作贪婪的人

Always grabbing things for yourselves

            不要总为自己争夺物质上的东西

All earthly things are but temporary.

            世上的事物都不过是暂时的

We should look outward, beyond ourselves.

            我们应该要往外看，不是单单只想自己

We can care for other people.

            我们能去关怀其它人

And care for God’s world.    

            我们能关怀神所造的这个世界
