On today’s program, I’d like to talk about transportation today, and I’m wondering – how do you get to work every day?

            今天要和你談到交通工具，不知道你每天是怎樣返工的？

In the west, most of us drive to work.

            在西方，多半的人都開車返工

We rely on our cars to get us everywhere.

            我們都很倚賴開車到每一個地方

Cheung Yun, did you see my new car out in the parking lot?

            你今天開了新車來呢  Which one is that?

The blue Honda Civic.

            是一輛藍色的本田車  Cool!

I love my car.

            你很愛你的車子 Mark, when did you learn to drive?

Like everyone else, when I was 16.

像許多美國年青人一樣, 你16歲就學開車了

It’s the legal driving age in our state.

在我們這個州，16歲可以合法開車That’s kind of young, don’t you think?

Well, if you take driver’s education at school.

            在高中時就能選修駕車的課程

Which I did.  I passed the road test on my first try.

            你第一次考路考他就考過了.  I guess you are a good driver.

I am truly a great driver …

as long as the car runs good.

The Radio Program: “Car Talk”  廣播節目「談車子」   Car Talk is a weekly radio show.   Car Talk 是個每週一次的廣播節目 It’s being broadcast on Public Radio stations throughout the United States.   在全美國的公共電台播放 It has been on the air for over 20 years.   在空中廣播已經超過20年了 The hosts are two brothers.   主持人是一對兄弟 People call them with any problems related to cars   聽友可以打電話，詢問任何有關車的毛病的問題 Even problems like a husband and wife who can’t agree on how to drive.   甚至老公老婆開車時大家產生很不同的意見, 這些問題也可以問 The show often makes me laugh.   這個節目常常逗得馬可大哥開懷大笑

 

Talking about car, Producer Josh has a great car story to tell us.

            談到車子，我們的製作人Josh有個故事要告訴我們

It’s about his first driving experience.

            這是他第一回開車的經驗

“Dude, your wheels are on fire!”  What a story. 

「小伙子，你車子輪胎著火了。」 這個是一個真實發生在我身上的故事。

 

When I was 16 years old I drove a 1990 Hyundai for maybe a couple of months.  It was an old rusty piece of junk, but hey, it was a car.  My car!  It was my brother’s car originally, and then I bought it off him for 400 dollars.  400 dollars for a car!  Pretty good deal in my opinion.

當我16歲時，我開一輛1990的韓國車Hyundai差不多有兩個月之久 。說來這是一輛又舊又生銹的爛鐵。但無論如何，它還是一輛車子, 是屬於我的車子！原本這車是我哥哥的，但我用了400美元從他手上買了下來。400元就能有一輛車，我當時認為這是一個不錯的交易呢。

 

I had quite the experience.  More like a nightmare!  Hey dude, your wheels are on fire! 

跟著我便有這樣的一個經驗, 更貼切地說,就是有這樣一個惡夢。有人說：「嘿，小伙子，你車胎著火了。」    

 

Before I took the car on the road I shined it up real nice.  I mean I wanted this old beat up car looking brand new!  Or at least presentable……So I washed the car, cleaned the inside, and was ready to show the world my brand new piece of junk! 

還沒開車上路之前，我把車擦得非常光亮。我的意思是我想把這部老車，弄得像全新的一樣。至少是可以見得人的….所以，我好好的洗車，把裡面清潔乾淨，預備好了要向全世界展示我這新的爛車。

 

I turned the stereo up, and hit the road with my Hyundai.  The only problem was I had the emergency brake up the whole time! 

我把車的音響開大，便開著我的Hyundai上路去了！只是沒發覺一個問題：全程裏,我都沒有把緊急煞車板拉起。

 

All of a sudden I could not break, and I was sliding into oncoming traffic.  The street smelled like burnt rubber, and my car was smoking like crazy.  That’s when a random stranger came up to my car and said “Dude! Your wheels are on fire!” 

突然，我發現我煞不住車。我漸漸滑行到對頭來的車陣裡。街道上有橡膠燒焦的味道，我的車也煙霧瀰漫。那時一個偶然經過的陌生人走向我的車對我說：「小伙子，你車子輪胎著火了。」

 

My car survived, but it wasn’t too much longer when I decided to buy a new one.  I’ll never ever forget this day!  My first time behind the wheel had me thinking it was going to be my last. 

我的車後來雖然保住了，但沒多久之後我還是決定換一輛新的車。我永遠不會忘記這一天的經驗。我第一次自己駕車上路，竟差一點成了我的最後一次。

讓我現在充當自己是個交通警察，來提醒你：開車時要繫上安全帶，同時肯定當你駕車時,你車子輪胎不會著火。

Americans, especially men, have an obsession with cars.

你說美國人，特別是美國男性對車子很癡迷

But our lives really should not be defined by our car.

            但我們的生命不該是按我們開的車來定義的

The kind of car we drive, or whether we have a car or not, really doesn’t mean anything.

            我們開怎樣的車，又是否是有車階級，其實都不重要

Let’s listen to what the Bible says.

            聖經乃是這樣告訴我們的﹕

 

Verse For Life 生命經文   Jesus said, “Watch out. Be on your guard against all kinds of greed.   耶穌說﹕你們要謹慎自守，免去一切的貪心 For a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”   因為人的生命不在乎家道豐富   Luke 12:15路加福音

 

Well, the Bible is clear.  Don’t be a greedy person.

            聖經很明白的說，不要作貪婪的人

Always grabbing things for yourselves

            不要總為自己爭奪物質上的東西

All of these earthly things are but temporary.

            世上的事物都不過是暫時的

We should look outward, beyond ourselves.

            我們應該要往外看，不是單單只想自己

God calls us to care for other people.

            神呼召我們要去關懷其他人
