Today we are going to talk about “Eyes and Eyesight”.

今天和你来谈谈，眼睛 Eyes以及视野Eyesight. Interesting.  Mark, you have blue eyes.  马可大哥你有蓝眼珠

That’s right. And you Cheung Yun, you have brown eyes.

没错，我有棕色的眼珠

Some people have green eyes, or black eyes…

            有些人则有绿眼珠，或黑眼珠等等

Have you heard of this saying, “The Eyes are the window to the Soul.”

听过这句谚语吗？Of course. ”眼睛是灵魂之窗 The eyes are the window to the soul”. 

Think about it, when you look at a person,

            当我们望一个人时，

We naturally look at the person’s face.

            我们会很自然的看那个人的脸孔That’s right.

 And particularly their eyes.

尤其是看那个人的眼睛. I agree.  Like now, you are talking to me and looking at me. 马可大哥你现正和我说话,而且看着我呢

Well, it works both ways.  You are looking at me, too.

            对了，我们现在是四目交投呢 .

Cheung Yun, both you and I wear glasses.

对, 你和我都戴眼镜 

But I prefer to wear contacts.

            不过你爱漂亮，就喜欢戴隐形眼镜

And you prefer wearing only when you are driving

对, 因为我近视不深, 只在驾车的时候时才戴. And… when I am watching movie too. 我在看电影时也会戴的.

Speaking of eyesight, I want to let you in on a little secret.

            谈到视野, 你有个小秘密要告诉我们?  (let in on就是告诉人秘密)

When I wear contacts, I use one eye to see distance, and the other to read.

当你戴隐形眼镜时，你是用一只眼看远的事物，另一只眼作阅读  Really?

Well, I use my strong eye, which is the left eye, to do things like driving.

            你用视力比较好的左眼来做事，比如开车

And use my weaker eye, which is the right eye, for close-up reading.

用视力比较弱的右眼，来作近距离的阅读 That’s amazing.  I didn’t know you can do that. 咁厉害, 我真不晓得你有这个本事.

It works well for me.

That’s something.  Maybe I should try it.  真了不得,或者我也该试试.

You know, human body is amazing.

            人类的身体很奇特

Each part does its own job,

            每一部分的肢体有它的功能，

While all the other parts do their jobs.

当当各个肢体展现各自的功能，

And they do compensate each other.

            而它们会相互补足呢

So that way everything works together well.

好让全身能运作得合宜

Isn’t this incredible?

            这不是很不可思议吗？

 

 

Culturally Speaking 话说文化   Eye contact  人与人眼目的接触.  四目交投 Eye contact is a form of nonverbal communication.   Eye contact人与人眼目的接触，是一种非语言的沟通模式 However, In Asia, direct eye contact can be considered rude.   但在亚洲，与人眼目的接触，也可能是不礼貌的 Especially talking to your boss or elderly people.   特别和自己单位主管或年长者交谈时 But in western culture, it’s the opposite.    但在西方文化里，却又正好相反 Looking at people in the eyes while talking is considered an important manner.    谈话时目光直视对方，被认为是很重要的礼节

Two friends are enjoying a walk in the park.

            两位朋友在公园里散步

Suddenly one of them stops.

            其中一位忽然停下了脚步

What happened?  Let’s hear their conversation.

            发生了什么事呢？我们来听这段的对话

 

*Dialogue

 

A:   What are you staring at?

B﹕A bird. (pause) Up there! 

A﹕ I don’t see any bird in sight.  Where? 

B:   There.  On top of that tree.  I can hear its singing.

A:   The sun is in my eyes.  Which tree are you talking about?

B﹕Shhh.  Don’t talk so loud.  You will scare the bird away.

A﹕All right.  Where’s the bird again?

B﹕(Sigh) Forget about it.  He’s out of sight now.

Pay attention to the phrases that have to do with eyes.

  (stare at 是 注视，看什么)

A bird. (pause) Up there! 

            一只鸟。在那上头!

I don’t see any bird in sight.  Where? 

            我看不到有什么鸟儿。在那儿？

  （in sight  就是眼睛看到什么）

There.  On top of that tree.  I can hear its singing.

            那儿。那棵树上头。我能听到鸟儿在唱歌

The sun is in my eyes.  Which tree are you talking about?

            阳光照着，挡了我的视线。你指的是那棵树呢？

    (the sun is in my eyes  就是阳光照在我眼里，挡我视线)

Shhh.  Don’t talk so loud.  You will scare the bird away.

            嘘，小声些。不要这么大声说话。你会把鸟儿给吓飞了

All right.  Where’s the bird again?

            好！你说鸟儿在那儿？

(Sigh) Forget about it.  He’s out of sight now.

            唉，算了。鸟儿现在已经飞不见了

  （out of sight 就是不在眼里，消失不见了）

Now that you understand the content, let’s review the everyday dialogue once again.

Eyes are important for our everyday life.

            在日常生活里，眼睛对我们是很重要的

God has given us five different senses.

            神给了我们五官

We usually rely on them, what we can see, and hear,

            我们通常总依赖这些感官，眼睛能看，耳朵能听的

What we can smell, taste and touch.

            鼻子能闻，嘴巴能尝，或皮肤能触摸的

But there’s something even more important than our five senses.

            但除了我们五官之外，生活里还有更重要的事，

That’s our faith in God.

            那就是，我们对神的信心

 

 

Verse of Life 生命经文   “We live by faith, not by sight.” 我们行事为人、是凭着信心、不是凭着眼见。   II Cor. 5:7  哥林多后书 “We live by faith, not by sight.”

 

The Bible reminds us,

            圣经提醒我们

We should have Faith in God’s love and mercy, which he demonstrated in Jesus Christ.

            我们该相信神在耶稣基督里，向我们彰显的慈爱和怜悯

Faith in God’s power and wisdom over all His creation.

            相信神在祂所造的一切之上都有权能和智慧

Knowing that nothing is hidden from his sight.

            知道所有事物都在神的眼目之下

Therefore, we can trust God to help us when we need help.

            也因此，我们能信靠神在我们需要时会帮助我们

Because His eye always watches over His children.

            因为他的眼目总是看顾祂的儿女
