We are glad to be able to spend the next 15 minutes with you.

Last week we talked about hope.

To hope is to desire with expectation that a wish will be granted.

We hope to become your friends.

We hope you will find our program interesting and edifying.

We hope your tomorrow will be better than today.

So, once again, we bring you another lesson on “Hope”.

Fun with Sayings

He who has hope has everything.

Do not fear disappointment in hope, but seek hope in disappointment.

Without hope, there’s no effort.

Next, we are going to listen to a conversation between a doctor and his patient..

Dialogue

Patient: Doctor, how am I doing?

Doctor: You are getting there.

Patient: But I don’t feel right.

Doctor: Did you try the medicine I gave you?

Patient: Not really. I don’t think it will work for me.

Doctor: Trust me. It will work. Just follow the instruction I gave you.

Patient: Whenever I feel depressed or in pain, take a dose of it.

Doctor: Correct.

Patient: What if one dose still doesn’t work?

Doctor: Take as many doses as you need. You will never overdose on it.

Patient: OK, I will give it a try.

─────

Now, we will try to understand the content of this conversation.

Patient: Doctor, how am I doing?

Doctor: You are getting there.

Patient: But I don’t feel right.

Doctor: Did you try the medicine I gave you?

Medicine

Patient: Not really. I don’t think it will work for me.

Doctor: Trust me. It will work. Just follow the instruction I gave you.

Patient: Whenever I feel depressed or in pain, take a dose of it.

dose 劑量, take a dose服下一劑藥方。

Doctor: Correct

Patient: What if one dose still doesn’t work?

What if如果

Doctor: Take as many doses as you need. You will never overdose on it.

As you need按你的需要 overdose 藥劑過量

Patient: OK, I will give it a try.

Give it a try

____________

Mark, I wonder what kind of medicine does this doctor prescribe?

You know, a medical doctor, Dr. Wilson, once said,

“Hope is the medicine I use more than any other medicine. Hope can cure nearly anything.”

Mark, do you think he is exaggerating too much?

I don’t think so. I think he means that if you can stir up hope in the patients, they will have the spirit to fight the illness and to continue living.

Hope can cure nearly anything.

Here’s the conversation one more time.

Verses of the Week

Find rest, O my soul, in God alone;

My hope comes from him.

He alone is my roack and my salvation;

He is my fortress, I will not be shaken.

Psalm 62:5,6

There’s a true story about an American musician.

His name is Don Moen.

Don Moen.

One day he got a phone call from his mother-in-law.

He found out his sister-in-law’s family had a car accident.

One of their boys died and the other three were seriously hurt.

When he was praying for the family, God gave him a song.

It’s called “God will Make a Way”.

God will make a way

where there seems to be no way

He works in ways we cannot see

He will make a way for me

He will be my guide

Hold me closely to His side

With love and strength for each new day

He will make a way.

He will make a way.

Don wanted to use this song to remind them there’s hope in a hopeless situation.

Xxx, can you sing this song for us ?

*****

God will make a way

where there seems to be no way

He works in ways we cannot see

He will make a way for me

He will be my guide

Hold me closely to His side

With love and strength for each new day

He will make a way.

He will make a way.

Xxx, there will always be heart-breaking tragedies in this world.

When we go through some of life’s hard trials, it’s easy to center upon ourselves.

We feel lost and desperate.

We are anxious and fearful.

But suffering is a natural part of life.

No one can avoid it.

The Bible says God himself became man.

Jesus also went through suffering and death on earth.

He understands our pain and agony.

In order to take upon himself all our sins, he died on the cross.

The cross is the symbol of his suffering.

But he rose again after three days.

Therefore, he can and will rescue those who put their trust in Him.

Although we will have tears and pains, but one day he will wipe away our tears and give us a new body.

The Bible says, Find rest, O my soul, in God alone;

My hope comes from him.

He alone is my rock and my salvation;

He is my fortress, I will not be shaken.

Mark, I was hoping to hear you sing. You have a good voice.

Oh, didn’t I tell you? I am no good at singing. I can’t carry a tune.

But you have a very musical family. You wife plays piano, your daughter plays the flute…

Well, that’s them not me.

No matter what, I think you have a lot of potential.

Everybody has potential. But at my age, it’s hopeless to try to make me a singer.

I am not giving up on you yet. I’ll give you plenty of opportunities.
