Today our topic is Hope.

The word “hope” can be seen everywhere.

Hope”希望”这两个字随处可见。

For example, there’s Hope college, Hope town, Voice of Hope radio broadcast.

例如﹐希望学院﹐希望镇﹐希望之声广播等。Don’t forget the famous comedian Bob Hope. 也別忘了著名的喜剧明星Bob Hope.

That’s right. He brought a lot of laughter into this world.

Everybody needs laughter and hope.

Talking about hope, what comes to your mind, Xxx?

                I think of the well-known Project Hope in China.

                我想到在中国的希望工程。

Project Hope? What is it?

                It is a government funded project to help poor children get an education.

这是中国政府为了穷苦的孩子所提供的就学教育方案。

That is a wonderful thing. I am sure this project brings hope to many needy children.

It did have a big impact on many children. 希望工程果真带给许多孩子极大的希望和影响。

Mark, what’s the difference between Hope and Wish and Expect?

Hope, Wish, Expect 这三个动词有什麼不同﹖

To hope is to desire with expectation that the wish will be granted.

                To hope 是以期待的心情，希望愿望得以实现。

For example, I hope he will get married soon.

                比如說，我希望他会很快结婚。

To expect is to look forward to something that ought to or will happen.

                To expect 是期待一些预料之中的事情会发生。

For example, He is expected to go to university this fall.

                比如，大家期待他今年秋天会上大学。

To wish is to desire for something.

                To wish 是心中切切盼望得到某些东西或事情。

For example, do you wish to become an actress?

                比如，你切切盼望成为一位女演员吗？

Among these three, to hope is the most often used word.

                A: Remember, Hope for the best.

B: And prepare for the worst.

Living in this life, we always encounter suffering and trouble.

                在这世上生活，我们常常面对苦难和烦恼。

There are natural disasters like earthquakes and floods.

                总会碰到有天災，像地震或大洪水。

Also man-made disasters like wars and crimes.

                也会碰到人祸，像战爭或犯罪行为。

We see people who have incurable diseases.

                我们看到许多人有絕症。

People who are poor and hungry.

                许多人贫穷飢饿。

People who have physical pain and emotional depression.

                许多人有肉体上的苦痛和情绪上的郁闷。

In a time of distress and trouble, we can easily feel hopeless.

But as the Scripture says, God is our refuge and strength.
