Mark, do you know Chinese people have calculated time and calendar since 3000 years ago? 你可知中国人在三千年前就懂得计算时间和历法吗？

Really? How did they do it?

The ancient Chinese observed the sun and the moon and developed an accurate calendar.古时候的中国人观察太阳和月亮，发展出精确的历法。

I know. That is the ”lunar calendar”, right?

                Yes. it’s also called the farmers calendar. 也就是我们說的农历。

From this calendar, the farmers know when is the best time to plant the seed, to do the farming and to harvest the crops.

                That’s right. 从农历裡，我们知道何时是春耕，夏耘，秋收的好时机。

Also, nowadays the western calendar is part of our daily lives.

                现今，西历也是我们日常生活的一部份。

We grow old as the days and the years go by.

我们随著年日的改換而变老。

What we should do is look forward to the future, and make good use of every opportunity of now.

                我们应该期许将来，同时不要虛度光阴。

Now, situation 2, (第二个情況) Here’s Amy.

“I needed to make many copies at work. However, the machine in the office is slow. So I decided to go to a store that has a fast copy machine.”

In this situation, Amy is….

“I have a doctor’s appointment. I got there 15 minutes early. I read a magazine while waiting.”

Correct again. When someone is bored, he does something to fill in the time.

“ I like to take long breaks at work. I usually like to chat with my co-workers about little things.”

                Linda在作工地方会花很长时间休息。她喜欢和同事聊许多生活小事。

 

She is chatting time away. That means…

                That means she is wasting time.

 Yes. She is wasting time.

她是浪费时间.

Culturally Speaking 话說文化   In western culture, people live by the clock. It is important to be punctual. 在西方文化裡，一般人都按著钟鲇生活。準时是很重要的。 If you arrive late for the meeting, you will be embarrassed. It’s not good. 如果你在开会时迟到，你会觉得很难堪，这不是一件好事。 But in many other parts of the world, there is a different concept. 但是在世界许多其他国家，卻有不同的时间观念。 Meetings start when everybody gets there. 当每一个人都到齐了，会议才开始。   This different expectation about time is a common cause of frustration. 这种对时间观念的不同期待，通常造成不少人的挫折感。 If you are visiting another country, make sure you understand the concept of time in that country. 如果你去到另一个国家，那你要先了解那个国家的人对时间观念如何。

 

So Mark, for Americans, everybody lives by the clock. 对美国人来說， 每个人都很有时间观念。

I guess we emphasize efficiency and product results.

                也许美国人比较強调效率和成品。

But a lot of times, we are bounded by time.

                与此同时，美国人也被时间绑住了。

 

 

 

Verse of the Week   Jesus said: 耶稣說， Heaven and earth will pass away, 天地要废去， But my words will never pass away. 我的话卻不能废去。   Matthew 24:35 马太24：35

 

Xxx, everything in this world gets old and wears out and they are gone.

                是阿，这世上的一切总都会变老变旧，然后停止运作。

But Jesus said his words are different. They will never pass away.

但是耶稣說祂口裡出的话卻不同，它们絕不会废去。

When people make promises to us, we can only hope that they will keep them.

                当周遭的人对我们做出承诺时，我们只能希望他们会守約。

But in our hearts we know that they may not keep their promises.

                但是我们內心也知道，他们可能不会遵守約定。

People can change their minds. They can break their promise.

                他们会改变心意，他们也会违背約定。

But God is different.

                但是，神卻不同於人。

He doesn’t’ change or grow old or run out of time.

                祂不改变，也不会变老，更不会沒了时间。

His promises are dependable because He himself lasts forever.

                祂的应许是可靠的，因为他是永远存在。

Jesus is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.

                耶稣昨日，今日，明日都不改变。

He said: Heaven and earth will pass away.

But my words will never pass away.
