Angie: Hi, Dave, How are you?

Dave: (sadly) Oh, fine. I guess.

Angie: Is something the matter?

Dave: Do you know professor Lee?

Angie: No, but I have heard a lot about him – all the students hate him.

Dave: I sure do.

Angie: Why?

Dave: If you don’t know the answer to a question, he makes fun of you in front of

 the whole class. I can’t stand him.

Angie: I don’t blame you. Who would want a teacher like that?

Now, let’s try to understand the dialogue between Angie and Dave.

Dave: I sure do.

Angie: Why?

Dave: If you don’t know the answer to a question,

 he makes fun of you in front of the whole class.

make fun of somebody拿人开玩笑，取笑某人，in front of 在什麼之前

I can’t stand him.

                我不能忍受他。

Angie: I don’t blame you.

 Who would want a teacher like that?

                有谁会要这樣的老师呢？

The answer: Because he embarrassed people in the public.

How does he do it?

The answer: He makes fun of the student who couldn’t answer the question in front of the whole class.

People who treat us badly or unfairly.

How should we respond to them?

“You have heard that it was said, 你们听见有话說，

‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’

当爱你的邻舍，恨你的仇敌。

But I tell you: 只是我告诉你们，

Love your enemies 要爱你们的仇敌

And pray for those who persecute you…” 为那逼迫你们的祷告。

 

Matthew 5:43,44 马太福音5章43,44节 (English again)5.

 

Mark, It is common for us to love our neighbors. 去爱我们的邻舍，是很平常的事。

Right。 It is easy to love those who are good to us.

                爱那些对我们好的人也很容易。

But what about our enemies?

                但是对我们的敌人又该怎樣呢？

In every culture, it’s common to hate our enemies.

                在每一个文化裡，恨我们的仇敌是很平常的事。

But Jesus says we should love our enemies.

                但是耶稣卻說要爱我们的仇敌。

Do good to those who hate us.

                对那些恨我们的人，要善待他们。

Pray for the happiness of those who curse us,

                对那些咒诅我们的，要为他们祝福。

And pray for those who hurt us.

对那些伤害我们的，要为他们祷告。That’s hard to do, don’t you think so, Mark? 这很难作得到。

Yes. If we are trying to use our ability to do it.

                靠我们自己的能力去作，实在是很难。

But Jesus himself gave us the best example.

                但是耶稣留给了我们最好的榜樣。

While he was nailed on the cross,

                当祂被钉在十字架时，

He didn’t curse his enemies.

                祂並沒有出恶讠咒诅他的敌人。

Instead, He prayed for them.

反倒为他们祷告。The Bible says He asked God to forgive them.圣经說，祂求神宽恕他们的罪。

You are right. Likewise, Christians should be merciful and kind.

                同樣的，基督徒也应该充满怜悯与仁慈。

Because we are children of God.

因为我们是神的儿女。

God will enpower us to live out his teaching.

                神会赐下力量，叫我们能实践出他的教训来。

By obeying him, we will have great reward from God.

                因著顺服神，我们将会有祂所赐的大赏赐。

We will find joy and peace in life.

我们的生活会充满喜乐平安。
