Joani: How can you eat a cold sandwich on a day like this?

Joani: But after having the soup, I feel I can brave the wind and the snow.

John: I would think just a gust of wind can blow you down.

Joani: Well, you can’t judge a person by his size.

John: True. But I can tell someone will be hungry in 20 minutes.

Talking about being hungry, Xxx, I remembered Jesus once went without eating for 40 days and nights.

            是，耶稣有一回曾经40天沒有吃任何东西。

After he fasted 40 days and nights, he was hungry.

            祂在禁饣了40昼夜之后，就饿了。

The devil came to him and said,

            魔鬼来到祂面前对祂說：

“If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

            “你若是上帝的儿子，可以吩咐这些石头变成饣物。”

What was Jesus’ reply? Let’s listen.

Jesus answered, 耶稣回答說，

‘Man does not live on bread alone, ‘人活著，不是单靠饣物，

but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Mark, we all agree that people need bread to survive. 我们都需要靠著饣物才能生存。

Right. Jesus is not saying bread is not important.

            耶稣並不是說饣物不重要。

Remember he hadn’t eaten in 40 days. He knows we need bread to live.

            耶稣曾经40天沒吃东西，祂当然知道我们需要依赖饣物维生。

Jesus is saying we can’t live on bread alone.

            耶稣是說，我们活著，不是单靠饣物。

Even if our stomachs are full, it’s still not enough.

            既使我们吃足喝饱了，还是会觉得不夠。

We don’t feel satisfied.

            我们还是觉得不满足。

Good food and material goods can not fill the emptiness in our souls.

            好吃的饣物和物质享受，並不能填满我们心灵的空虛。

We are all longing to hear God our Father speak to us.

            我们都渴望听到天父上帝对我们說话。

Like a child taken away from his Father

            就好比一个和父亲分离的小孩子，

You can give him all the food he can eat, all the toys he wants,

            你可以给他所有他爱吃的饣物，给他所有他想要的玩具，

But what is most precious, and most longing to him, is his father’s voice.

            但是他最觉得最宝贵和渴望的，还是他父亲的声音。

God is our heavenly Father.

            神，是我们天上的父亲。

He is the one who made us, who understands us, and who loves us.

祂创造我们，了解我们，也爱我们。

We need to listen to His voice.

            我们需要听祂的声音。

Jesus says,
