Now that you mention it, , how is Wai-Wai? I haven’t seen her since she left here.

Oh, Didn’t you know? She got married a month ago. 我們的舊同事Wai-Wai結婚了。

Really? That’s wonderful. Who is the lucky guy?

                His name is Francis. 那位幸運的男士名叫Francis.

Did you go to the wedding ceremony?

                Yes, I did. It was beautiful. 我參加了他們美好的婚禮。

 

 

Tell me , did they have a Chinese wedding or a western wedding?

                They had a western wedding. 他們採用西式的婚禮。

Did they have a church wedding or a civil wedding?

They had a church wedding. 他們採用教堂結婚儀式。The pastor from their church officiated the wedding. 他們教會的牧師主持了儀式。

I wonder what is Wai-Wai and Francis’ love story.

                Oh, they knew each other for a very long time. 他們兩人可是愛情長跑。

And finally he proposed to her?

I am happy for both of them.

Cheung Yun how is the western wedding custom different from the Chinese one?

哦，你問西方的婚禮習俗，和中國的有什麼不同？Well, for very traditional wedding, we have someone who has a high standing in the community to preside the wedding.

Someone who has a high standing in the community to preside the wedding?

Right.中國人喜歡請地方上的首長來主持婚禮。And there are always two introducers present . 還加上要有兩位介紹人。

What do you mean introducers?

In the past they were the match makers, but today it’s just a formality. 在以前就是指媒人，不過現在是形式上的介紹人。

That’s interesting.

And usually the guests will talk loudly and make a lot of noise because it’s such a joyous occasion. 正因為是喜事，通常婚禮很吵雜很熱鬧，賓客也會大聲說話。

Really? That’s totally the opposite from a western wedding.

                I know. 氣氛和西式婚禮很不相同。

A: John and Mary are getting married soon.

B: I know. They are a natural couple.

A: Are you guys going to have a bachelor party for John?

B: Yes. I will take care of that. How about you?

A: I am going to throw a wedding shower for Mary. Girls like to open presents.

B: For you ladies the shower is fine, but I’m sticking with the bachelor party.

                你們男士們是不是要給John開一個王老五派對？

bachelor 單身漢，王老五

 

B: Yes. I will take care of that. How about you?

A: I am going to throw a wedding shower for Mary. Girls like to open presents.

                我準備給Mary辦個結婚送禮會。女孩子總是喜歡開禮物。

Talking about wedding, the Bible tells us Jesus once was invited to a wedding.

                談到婚禮，聖經說耶穌有一回被邀請去赴一個娶親的宴席。

While the celebration was still going on, they ran out of wine.

                當眾人還在歡慶之時，酒用盡了。

Jesus’ mother told Jesus they were out of wine.

                耶穌的母親告訴耶穌，他們沒有酒了。

Jesus told the servants to fill six stone jars with water.

                後來，耶穌告訴用人去把六個石水缸倒滿了水。

And he told them to draw some out take it to the master of the banquet.

                他更叫他們把一些舀出來送去給管宴席的。

The master of the banquet tasted it.

                管宴席的嘗了之後，

Then he called the groom aside and asked him why he saved the best wine until then.

                把新郎叫了來，問他為什麼把好酒流到最後才擺出來。

Jesus had changed the water into wine.

                原來耶穌把水變成了酒。

This was the very first miracle Jesus performed on earth.

                這是耶穌在世所行的第一個神蹟。

It’s recorded in the Gospel of John chapter 2.

                記載在約翰福音第二章。Mark, wasn’t that marvelous?

Yes, it was. Jesus is God and he did everything good.

                耶穌是神。他所做的一切事都好。

 

 

 

 

In the east , wine is essential in the wedding banquet.

                在東方，婚宴裡擺上美酒是很重要的。

It’s a way of showing hospitality to the guests.

它是主人款待賓客之道。

It brings satisfaction and enjoyment to a joyous occasion.

                它為歡樂的場合帶來滿足和享受。

Jesus turned water into wine and brought joy back to the feast.

                耶穌變水為酒，把歡樂帶回到宴席中。

The miracle revealed his power and glory.

                這個神蹟顯出了他的大能和榮耀。

Likewise, in the feast of life, we are often out of wine.

                同樣的，在生命的筵席裡，我們常常酒用盡了。

But Jesus brings us new vitality in life.

                但是耶穌來，給我們生命注入新活力。

Through his salvation, he gives us new life.

                藉著他的救恩，他賜下新生命。

A wonderful life that is abundant and full of joy.

                給我們一個美好豐盛, 充滿喜樂的生命。

Mark, I heard that in the west, the bride’s family is responsible for the entire wedding including the reception.

That’s right.

That’s strange. We have it the other way around.

Are you saying the groom’s family pays for all the wedding expense?

Yes. Think about it. You have a wife to take care of you and cook for you and bear your surname. And her family has to pay the expense to marry her off?

That’s our custom. I’m sure glad I was in the west when I got married.
