Feed a cold and starve a fever
It is believed that when someone has a cold, you should give them food to fight back the cold.
But if someone is having a fever, it’s better not to feed them.

Because when you have a fever, it’s hard to keep food down.
Now it’s time for “Dialogue of the day”.
John and Joani these two friends are in a restaurant ready to eat their food.
Let’s listen to their conversation.
Dialogue
John: I love a turkey sandwich with potato salad and coke
Joani: How can you eat a cold sandwich on a day like this?
This is the kind of day to have a bowl of good soup.
John: Soup is just liquid. There’s no substance.
Joani: But after having the soup, I feel I can brave the wind and the snow.
John: I would think just a gust of wind can blow you down.
Joani: Well, you can’t judge a person by his size.
John: True. But I can tell someone will be hungry in 20 minutes.
-----------------------------
OK, let’s review the dialogue and the vocabularies.
John: I love a turkey sandwich with potato salad and coke。
Joani: How can you eat a cold sandwich on a day like this?
This is the kind of day to have a bowl of good soup.
a bowl of soup 一碗湯
John: Soup is just liquid. There’s no substance.
Joani: But after having the soup, I feel I can brave the wind and the snow.
brave the wind and the snow
John: I would think just a gust of wind can blow you down.
a gust of wind
Joani: Well, you can’t judge a person by his size.
John: True. But I can tell someone will be hungry in 20 minutes.
-----------------------------------
Mark, are you a soup or a sandwich person?
Neither. I am a pizza and potato person.
Now I know what you are made of─cheese and starch.
Well, don’t just talk about me. How about you?
I am a rice and soup person.
Oh, Yea? But everyday I see the size of your lunch is enormous.
Not only that, the Chinese food you eat is very tempting.
Don’t tell me you are hungry now.
Forget it. Let’s listen to the dialogue once again.
John: I love a turkey sandwich with potato salad and coke
Joani: How can you eat a cold sandwich on a day like this?
This is the kind of day to have a bowl of good soup.
John: Soup is just liquid. There’s no substance.
Joani: But after having the soup, I feel I can brave the snow and the cold.
John: I would think just a gust of wind can blow you down.
Joani: Well, you can’t judge a person by his size.
John: True. But I can tell someone will be hungry in 20 minutes.

Talking about being hungry, Cheung Yun I remembered Jesus once went without eating for 40 days and nights.
After he fasted 40 days and nights, he was hungry.
The devil came to him and said,
“If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
What was Jesus’ reply? Let’s listen.
Verse of the Week
Jesus answered,
“It is written: “經上記著說:
‘Man does not live on bread alone, ‘
but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Matthew 4:4
Mark, we all agree that people need bread to survive.
Right. Jesus is not saying bread is not important.
Remember he hadn’t eaten in 40 days. He knows we need bread to live.
Jesus is saying we can’t live on bread alone.
Even if our stomachs are full, it’s still not enough.
We don’t feel satisfied.
Good food and material goods can not fill the emptiness in our souls.
We are all longing to hear God our Father speak to us.
Like a child taken away from his Father
You can give him all the food he can eat, all the toys he wants,
But what is most precious, and most longing to him, is his father’s voice.
God is our heavenly Father.
He is the one who made us, who understands us, and who loves us.
We need to listen to His voice.
Jesus says,
‘Man does not live on bread alone,
but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Cheung Yun Tell me, What is in your lunch box today?
It’s something very very delicious.
I don’t understand how you can eat so much everyday?
You can’t judge a person by her size, you know. Why are you thinking about food again?
Well, it’s close to eating time. We have to live on bread….
